Director of Education
Columbus Museum of Art
Cindy Foley is the director of education at the Columbus Museum of Art. Since arriving in 2006, Foley has worked to reimagine the CMA as a 21st-century institution that is transformative, active, and participatory. She believes that an art museum can and must impact the health and growth of the community by providing, fostering and championing creativity. This effort culminated with the opening of a new18,000 square-feet facility, the Center for Creativity, in 2011.
In 2012, Foley received the Greater Columbus Arts Council Community Arts Partnership award for Arts Educator. She was also a keynote speaker for the Ohio Art Education Association 2012 Conference. In 2013, the Columbus Museum of Art was the recipient of the National Medal for Museums and Libraries from the Institute for Museum and Library Services for impacting their community through intentional programs and initiatives that cultivate creative and critical thinking.
Prior to joining the museum, she was with the Institute of Contemporary Art at the Maine College of Art, as director of education/assistant curator, where she created the ICA’s learning agenda, while also leading the effort to develop the College’s Art Education BFA program.
