The increasing length of time children and teens spend with screen media has been associated with the rise in obesity among young people. But according to a study in the May 2013 issue of Pediatrics, “Characteristics of Screen Media Use Associated With Higher BMI in Young Adolescents” (published online April 8), the amount of attention youth pay to TV plays a key role in the link between their media use and body mass index (BMI).
